Heart and Sole: The Red Pump Project

Rocking the Red Pump

FACT: Every 47 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States.
FACT: HIV is the leading cause of death for Black women ages 25-34.
FACT: When HIV affects one of us, it affects all of us.

These facts inspired bloggers, Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Lee to found the Red Pump Project in 2009 with the goal of inspiring bloggers to bring more awareness to National Women and Girls HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day. (Shoes N Booze Rocked the Red Pump in 2009 and 2010.) Since then, the organization has grown beyond a social media campaign to a network of ambassadors in 5 major cities (Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas and Washington, DC), signature events and prevention outreach workshops.

As a national nonprofit organization, The Red Pump Project encourages conversations that attempt to remove the stigma around HIV/ AIDS, empower women and girls to make healthy, educated decisions regarding their bodies and create safe, non-judging environments for those who have been affected by the virus to express themselves.

Shoes N Booze applauds the efforts of The Red Pump Project, and I, Nafeesa (AKA StyleScrybe) rock my red pumps in solidarity.

I hope you'll visit theredpumpproject.org and find out how you can get involved.

Almost There Thursday- World AIDS Day- (Belvedere) RED

Red Means STOP

Sometimes it’s mind boggling how quickly a week goes by. It’s like one minute, you’re fighting Monday blues, and the next minute it’s Thursday already. Add to that the fact that it’s December 1, and you have simultaneous “where did the week go?!” and “how is it already the end of the year?!” moments. It’s also World AIDS Day, which deserves a at least a pause in consideration of not only those we’ve lost to the disease, but moreso those who are surviving- no- living with it. I hope it’s also inspired you find out your status and take full responsibility of your sexual safety. There’s no shame in having an STD talk prior to getting between the sheets. If you’re uncomfortable talking about sex and its consequences, then you probably shouldn’t be having it. (OK off the soapbox and onto shoes.) As a visual observance of the day, consider wearing red pumps, like Tibi’s Firebird Pump (available at Amazon.com, where I’m an affiliate). The embroidered detailing makes it perfect for the holiday season, and the 3 1/5 inch heel makes it practical enough for the office. (You may also want to look into The Red Pump Project, which aims to raise awareness about the impact of HIV/ AIDS on women and Girls)

Earlier this year, Belvedere Vodka announced a partnership with (RED)™ to release the special edition bottle, (BELVEDERE) RED. In support of the fight against AIDS in Africa, Belvedere Vodka will donate 50% of profits from the sale of (BELVEDERE) RED to the Global Fund. They also enlisted Usher as their celebrity ambassador for the partnership in hopes that his notoriety and their contributions will get us all closer to an AIDS free generation in 2015. Do your part and sip a (BELVEDERE) RED Pom Pom today at happy hour. It’ll be a sweet, effervescent reminder that while we’re close to the end of another week and another year, we’re that much closer to accomplishing goals and new beginnings. That definitely deserves a CHEERS!
Recipe:
1.5 oz (BELVEDERE) RED
Splash lime juice
Top with Fever Tree Ginger Beer
Float grenadine on top
Build in highball and garnish with raspberry

Rocking the Red Pump: National Women & Girls HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day

Life or Death

Georgina Goodman Women's Suede Sparkle Leather PumpNice shoes, right? They're Georgina Goodman's Sparkle Pumps. Normally I'd post a picture of my own red pumps, but I need new ones, so these will have to do. Done swooning? Good... now READ...

Fact: Every 9 and a half minutes someone is infected with HIV in the United States.

Fact: Every 35 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States (and that's only the women who are actually getting tested!)

Fact: Both of those statistics can be drastically changed if we as women take more responsibility for our health by getting tested regularly and having open, honest conversations with our partner(s) before engaging in sexual activities with them.

Today is National Women & Girls HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day. Shoes N Booze is Rocking the Red Pump in hopes that our readers will see it as a catalyst to take control of their health. Ladies, if you're in a casket, your shoes don't matter. After work cocktails may be fun, but antiviral ones aren't. That said, no one will protect you if YOU don't. Know your status, and don't get into bed with a man (or woman) if you don't KNOW his (or hers).

*Facts were obtained from www.TheRedPumpProject.com. Please pay them a visit to learn more about the disease and how you can get involved in the fight. Please also tune into "Rise: the Resurrection Show" this Thursday night at 8 PM Eastern to learn ways of healing, not only for those INfected with the disease, but also those AFfected by it.

Shoe News: The Red Pump Project Promotes AIDS Awareness

We're Rocking our Red Pumps Today!

Did you know that March 10th is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day? In it's honor, Shoes & Booze is participating in the Red Pump Project, which is a campaign to raise awareness about the effects of HIV/AIDS on women and girls (if you noticed a lot of women in red pumps today, it's probably due in part to RPP). Whether directly or indirectly, HIV/AIDS affects millions of people, including our team, so this is an important cause. There were events throughout the country today, but some will be ongoing, so check out the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awarness Day schedule to see what's happening in your area. We also strongly suggest that you visit and subscribe to the Red Pump Project's blog for information and statistics. By the way, have you been tested? If not, it's about that time. Know your status! In the meantime, what do you think of StyleScrybe's red pumps?
