Sketchual Heeling: Ruthie Davis’s Favorites

Drawn to Perfection

Ruthie Davis’s designs range from daring to down right dicey. Her spike-, neon strap- and stud-adorned shoes have complimented the sartorial choices of style inspirers from Beyonce to Lady Gaga, and, well, I swoon every time I spy a pair. She recently shared some of her favorite sketches from the S/S ‘11 collection on her blog, and though I’m still feeling faint from the sight, I figured I’d share a couple of the ones I like most.

Fun Friday: Ruthie Davis Palm Springs Pumps

Neon Cameleon

Ruthie Davis Palm Springs Pump ShoesNBooze

If you’re on the East coast today, the gray skies may have you feeling a bit blue. But it’s Friday! (Friday… gotta get down on Friday. *Rebecca Black voice*) Be the bright spot in everyone’s day with a pair of neon patent leather pumps, like the Palm Springs by Ruthie Davis. The 5 inch stacked heel, platform and peep toe are staples in shoe styling at the moment and make them versatile… like your attitude. However the neon spin on the color blocking trend that’s so big this season really makes them stand out. If you don’t want to go too far out there with your look, wear them with something neutral, like khaki or olive dress.

Pisco Porton Lime Slushy ShoesNBoozeIt may be raining, but it’s still HOT out. Cool down at happy hour with a Pisco Porton Lime Raspadilla. With a flavor that’s somewhere between vodka and tequila in strength, the Peruvian white spirit is a great playmate for the tangy taste of lime.

Recipe: 2 ½ parts Pisco Portón, ½ part Rose's lime juice, ½ part fresh lime juice, Sugar for rim, Lime slice garnish

Method: Fill blender with ice and wet ingredients. Blend until frozen. Rub the rim of a tall glass with a lime slice so that the sugar will stick, then rim the glass with sugar and add blended ingredients. Garnish with a lime slice.

After a few of these, you won’t care about the weather or the week you’ve had. However, after too many, you also won’t care that your speech is slurred and your stumbling down the street. That said, be responsible.

Runway Recap: NYFW S/S '11 Favorites- Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte + Ruthie Davis for Dennis Basso

Someone Else's Shoes

It seems that for Spring 2011, most designers are departing from the notion of show-stealing shoes, opting instead for more subdued silhouettes. There were a few sparks, though, on the Rodarte and Dennis Basso runways. I guess when your shoes are designed by Ruthie Davis for Nicholas Kirkwood, though, they're bound to be eye-catching.

Ruthie Davis's platforms were the perfect partner for Dennis Basso's collection of pouffy pastel mini dresses and skirts. The pastels connote a bit of innocence, but the PVC straps also nod to something a bit more mature.

Nicholas Kirkwood's designs for Rodarte were, as usual, intricately designed and fairly ornate.

12 Days of Christmas: Day 7- Seven Shoes A'Shining

Who's Glistening?

On the Seventh Day of Christmas I hope the Shoe Fairy brings to me:

Seven shoes a'shining! "Bionic" pink and purple platform pumps from Ruthie by Ruthie Davis and Carvela's deep purple Sleaze booties are badass beauties. Bright metallics, like Rupert Sanderson's purple Winona pumps and Laurence Dacade's electric blue JO booties, add futuristic flair. Marc By Marc Jacobs' bright pink 605957 round toed pumps provide sweetheart appeal, and spectator detailing, accompanied by a contoured heel make these oxfords by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti the perfect crossroads between old and new. Christian Louboutin's "Madame Claude" d'orsay peep toed pumps will vamp up any look.

Six Feats of Graying! Thigh high "New Davis" suede boots by Brian Atwood (available at Net-A-Porter), Cesare Paciotti's studded, belted knee boots (avialable at myprestigium.com), Oxford ankle boots in gray suede and leather by Neil Barrett (available at The Corner), and a pair of Sergio Rossi "Fishnet" booties- (from the SS/10 collection), Jeffery Campbell's "Michelle" gray suede pumps (available at Akira Chicago), and Barbara Bui's "Choked Ankle" pumps (available at ShopBop.com).

Five Golden Rings! Actually, I'd prefer five pairs of golden shoes: a pair of knee-high boots with sculpted heels, like Behnaz Kanani's "Delroba Gold" boots, peep toed gold ankle boots, like Le Silla's limited edition "Mirror" booties and Max Kibardin's "Margot" fringed peep toes, (both available at Gregory's Shoes), a couple of pairs of gold pumps, like Diego Dolcini's metallic pointed pumps (available at FarFetch.com) and KG by Kurt Geiger's gold "Dolly" sequined pumps
(available at KurtGeiger.com).

Four Pairs of Feathered Footwear: Feathered and jeweled booties by Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain (available at ShopBop.com), Jimmy Choo's "Mable" feather-adorned sandals (available at Saks Fifth Avenue), Bourne's "Hayden" satin peep toes (available at Lord & Taylor), "Carla" peacock feathered sandals by Martinez Valero (available at MartinezValero.com).

Three "French" pumps... Well 3 pairs by prominent French designer, Roger Vivier.

2 Pairs of Yves Saint Laurent Imperiale boots that go over my knee.

And...

A pair of Nicholas Kirkwood Egypt platforms in purple alligator.

Cutesy Tuesday: Ruthie Davis Sushi Combos Revisited

Sushi Sashay

A few months ago, we let you know that Ruthie Davis (a footwear fave of celebrities like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taraji. P Henson and many others) was releasing a "two-for" line (see here). Now that it's too cold to don flip-flops for your commute to and from work, her Sushi Combos REALLY come in handy. Besides, you're too put-together for flip-flops or non-matching flats anyway. The clouds and/ or rain (depending on where you're located) today may have you feeling a little blue. Navy patent platform peep toed mary janes (and their flat partners) are just what you need. Try the Davis by Ruthie Davis Edamame/ Sashimi Combo (available at Endless.com). The red and purple accents add the pop you need to pump up your mood. Plus, the rubber strap provides a futuristic twist (wouldn't be a Davis pump without some futuristic pop).

What goes better with sushi than sake? This drink might look like a run of the mill martini or cosmo, but it's actually a Leblon and Sake Caipirinha. Made with Leblon Cachaca (Brazilian rum), Ty-Ku Sake, raspberries and lime juice, it's a semi-tart concoction with a kick. (And it brings out the red in your heels. Wink, wink.) It's so tasty that you may want to have a few, but remember, a lady sips and doesn't guzzle. If you can consume slowly, you can avoid the fast track to embarrassing situations.

Shoe News: Ruthie Davis Does Doubles

Ruthie Davis Desings a BOGO line

Hey shoelovers! We recently heard that Ruthie Davis will be offering a line of two-fer shoes next fall. Apparently, she realized a problem: sometimes we need to go from heels to flats in the blink of an eye without sacrificing style. Her answer was to design coordinating flats to go with her heels and then sell both for the price of one. She's calling them "Sushi Combos." (Yummy!) Oh, and they'll come with adorable graffiti print bag to carry them in. Oh, and the $698 to $798 price point will be noticeably lower than her normal $795 to $1295. No worries, though, she'll be using the same high-quality materials. The designs will just be less ornate. We haven't gotten our hands on any pics of the new line yet, so we figured we'd tempt you with a Sushi shoe from the current Summer '09 collection.
