Perfect Pairing: Katy Perry Sandals + Smirnoff Sourced Watermelon

Drinkin' Watermelon

Today's National Watermelon Day, and we're celebrating with shoes and a cocktail inspired by summer's favorite fruit. If you're trying to do the same but you're not sure where to start, we've got you covered.

On Your Feet

Katy Perry Carmen Fruit Sandal
The simplest thing would be to just wear a pair of red or red-pink shoes. However, if you want to go full-out, we suggest shoes that actually feature watermelons. This Carmen lace-up sandal from Katy Perry Collection is a good start. Depending on where you work, it might not be a good fit for the office (unless you get it in black). However it's definitely happy hour-approved. The tiny fruit accents (especially the watermelons) are adorable, and the stiletto heel, coupled with the trend-right ankle laces make them a sassy, sexy conversation piece wherever you go. (Also, you can likely get them for less than $100 via Amazon.)

Topshop Happy Fruity Watermelon Sandals

If flats are more on your level, these Happy Fruity Slides by Topshop will work, especially if you're sipping al fresco. Available at Nordstrom.

Camilla Elphick Watermelon Sandal

And if you're living la vida luxury, this sandal from Camilla Elphick will do the trick. Does anyone else envision themselves twirling the night away on the dancefloor in these? They're currently on sale at Luisa via Roma.

In Your Glass

Smirnoff Sourced Watermelon Cocktail

Smirnoff Sourced released a watermelon flavor just in time for today. The above-pictured Tropical Melon Bliss is sweet, refreshing and fairly easy to make at home:

Ingredients:
1.5 oz SMIRNOFF SOURCED Watermelon
1 oz coconut water
1 oz pomegranate juice
.5 oz lemon juice
.75 oz simple syrup

Method:
Combine ingredients in a glass over ice. Garnish with a watermelon wedge.

If your favorite bar doesn't have SMIRNOFF SOURCED Watermelon, you may be able to request a mixture of Smirnoff Vodka mixed with watermelon juice and the other ingredients. We're sure it'll also be pretty refreshing.

Will you be drinkin' watermelon today? Whatever you drink, please do it legally and responsibly.

Perfect Pairing: Drink Smirnoff Love Wins Cocktails. Wear These Shoes.

Live and Let Love

We're pretty sure you already know, but just in case... June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, which honors the Stonewall riots in NYC and acknowledges the accomplishments and equal rights struggles experienced by members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is also a time when many memorialize those who have lost their lives to hate crimes or to HIV/ AIDS. The New York Pride Parade is this weekend, and we know many of you will be joining the festivities. We've got your shoes and sips covered.

On Your Feet

Cape Robbin Rainbow Strappy Sandals with Lucite Heel

If you'll be clubbing this weekend, you'll need the perfect party heels. Enter Cape Robbin's Maria sandals. They're affordable (less than $50 on Amazon), and fun AF, thanks to sparkling straps (HELLO disco ball!). The lucite block heel is on trend for Summer '17, and the ankle strap provides the steadiness you need for whatever the dance floor demands. Get them (in this or other color combinations) HERE.

In Your Glass

Smirnoff Vodka Love Wins Bottle

Smirnoff recently released its limited edition "Love Wins" bottle. The vodka inside is the Original 21 Recipe, the same award-winning stuff you always order at the bar. In this case, it's what's on the outside that counts— an iridescent metallic finish and and prints of inspiring LGBTQ+ couples. Also Smirnoff partnered with the Human Rights Campaign, pledging to donate $1 to the organization for every limited edition bottle it produces. That's add up to more than $260,000 going to the biggest organization working toward equality for LGBTQ+ folks in the United States. If you're part of an LGBTQ couple and want a chance to be featured on next year's Love Wins bottle, submit your favorite pic of you and your boo HERE by 9/30/17. Oh, and we're not actually suggesting you walk the streets with an entire bottle of vodka in your hand... however, look out for it at your favorite bars.

Bonus Pair

Converse Pride 2017 All Star Sneakers

If you're going to the actual NY Pride Parade, you'll probably prefer sneakers over heels. Converse has a number of options in its 2017 "Yes to All" Pride Collection (our favorite is pictured above). All net proceeds from the collection will go to the It Gets Better Project and the Happy Hippie Foundation, which are both organizations committed to empowering LGBTQ+ youth around the world.

Wherever you celebrate, with whomever you celebrate, be sure to indulge and enjoy responsibly and legally.

*Disclosure- Smirnoff is a spirits partner and occasionally sends us complimentary bottles. Shoes N Booze is an Amazon affiliate.

Shoes Clues: Wear These to Memorial Day Barbecues

Jelly. No Roll.

You've got your Memorial Weekend barbecue schedule lined up perfectly so that you get this friend's divine bbq chicken right when it comes off the grill and that friend's delicious pie before her greedy relatives arrive. You also know where to be as the sun starts setting (because that's when #baewatch starts). Here's the question, though: what are you wearing on your feet? Flats are cool, but do you REALLY want to blend in THAT much? If you wear heels, and it turns out that you're walking in grass or near a pool, it could spell disaster (ankle roll, anyone?). Enter the wedge sandal (and its cousin, the chunky heel) — sturdy, versatile, and just the right ratio of laid-back to glammed-up. If you opt for jellies, it's even better... think spilled sauce, splashed drinks and possibly puddles near the pool. Here are a few we're crushing on this weekend:

Steve Madden x Iggy Azalea Hi Top Jelly Sandal

Steve Madden x Iggy Azalea Hi Top Jelly Sandal

Whether you're channeling 90s cool or rocking a festival-inspired look, this jelly sandal is the option for you. The heel is 4.5 inches, but there's a 1 inch platform, so your foot is at an incline that allows for nimble steps. ($109.95 at Amazon.com)

BCBGeneration Casper Wedge Sandal

Wedge Sport Sandal Steps up the style of Tevas

Going for a patriotic look? A red shoe makes a great finisher, and this one ups the ante of the ubiquitous sport sandal trend. (Teva, who?) Yeah, it has a 4.9 inch heel and a 1 inch platform, but it also has grips on the sole to ensure steady steps. ($89.99 at macys.com until 5/25, after which they're back up to $110.00)

United Nude Apollo Hi Wedge Sandal

United Nude mixed-media wedge sandal

If you're into modern minimalism, this sandal captures your aesthetic perfectly with its futuristic vibe. You may want to reserve this option for locations with paved surfaces, though, because the 2.2 inch platform can make it a little more difficult to steady your steps on uneven turf. On the other hand, that platform almost neutralizes the 5 inch heel, making this shoe a stand-all-day, dance-all-night style. ($239.00 at unitednude.com)

Bamboo Jelly Wedge Sandal

Bamboo Jelly wedge sandal

Punctuate your look with a bit of shimmer in this glittery gold sandal. The coolest thing about it? The glitter won't rub off because it's embedded in the rubber. The simple styling of this wedge means you can dress it up with something frilly or go lowkey with cut-offs and a tee. I don't see nothin' wrong with a little up & shine, do you? ($21.99 and available in lots of other colors at amazon.com)

Melissa Flip Sandal

Melissa rubber wedge sandal

Mostly matte with a little shine and an architectural look, this semi-wedge is probably the most grown-up option. For a chill vibe, wear with cuffed jeans. For something more refined, slip into your favorite maxi dress. ($77.50 at Melissa.com)

What will you be wearing on your feet this weekend?

Almost There Thursday: Ras Sandals &

Swing Low

You're one day from a three-day weekend, and you can't wait. You're actually considering working from home tomorrow so you can get the party started tonight. Make sure you're prepared with a pair of dance-friendly shoes. A fun pair like these Ras sandals are party-perfect. The festive, vividly hued satin and bright gold cork platform and low 3-inch heel say you're ready to rock around the clock. Whether you're watching the NBA playoffs at a chic sports bar or dancing the night away, you're going to be comfy and cute.

Your drink of choice this evening should be a Citrus Blackberry Collins (recipe & image from CocktailTimes.com). It's a combination of Belvedere Cytrus, Marie Brizard Blackberry liqueur, a little lime juice, lemon juice & simple syrup and a splash of club soda. It'll be a slightly bubbly, semi-sweet treat. Just remember that drinking too many may lead to clumsiness, which tends to ruin pretty satin sandals.

Wild Wednesday: Betsey Johnson Sandals & Sagatiba Cachaca

You've Been Spotted!

Have the past two days made you want to roar? When you step out tonight, there's no better way to free your inner predator than a pair of leopard print sandals. Betsey Johnson's Mackenzie d'Orsay stiletto pumps (available at Nordstrom) say there's no taming you. While the bold print puts your wild side on display, the metallic pink ruffle detail means you're equal parts girl and grrrrrr. Worn with a black wrap dress, ankle pants or another simple-but-sexy outfit of your choosing, this fierce pair of footwear will have suitors falling at your feet.

When the drink offers start pouring in, tell them you want an "Aman Snow Leopard". Conceived by star mixologist, John Gakuru, it combines Sagatiba Cachaca with amaretto. It's topped off with heavy cream and a little rose water to subdue some of the sweetness and garnished with a drizzle of espresso to add some kick. One of these will soothe the savage beast within, but don't have too many, though. It's easy go to from sex kitten to she-creature once all the inhibitions are gone, and nobody wants that.

Fun Friday: Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Stilettos & Zen Cocktails

Green Chi

Though you may be excited that the weekend's arrived, there's something very calming about leaving the office on a Friday evening. It's as if you can feel the tension leave your shoulders as you shut down your computer, and the oxygen seems to flow more freely through your lungs once you step into two days of freedom. Now that you've re-centered, do a little foot feng shui. Paint the town red in a pair of green shoes. Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti's patent strappy stiletto sandals (available at eLuxury.com) are an eye catching way to say you've found your chi. If the symmetrical pattern of multiple straps with enamel buckles doesn't express your inner equilibrium, walking steadily on the 5 inch stiletto heel will prove you've got a strong sense of balance. They'll look great with fitted denim bermuda shorts or a sexy shirtdress.

Keep the good vibes flowing, and order a Zen Buddha at your bar of choice (get extra karma points for tipping generously). One of Zen Liqueur's signature cocktails, it's a combination of SKYY Citrus Vodka, orange juice, Blue Curacao and Zen Green Tea Liqueur. The first sip of this stuff is sweet salvation, and by the end of your drink you'll be one with all that is good in the world. Don't overdo it, though because too much off a good thing can easily turn into bad news when you're dealing with liquor.

Cutesy Tuesday: Georgina Goodman Fortuna & Stolichnaya Vodka

In Mint Condition

After yesterday's storms in NY, today's sunny glow is as refreshing as a one of those new "Thin Mint" Blizzards from Dairy Queen. In the spirit of all things invigorating, embrace your effervescence today, and slip on your most enticing heels. This minty green "Fortuna" sandal by Georgina Goodman (available at ShopBop.com) makes the perfect indulgence. Supple kangaroo leather, wrap-around ankle tie straps, gold accents and a 4 inch mirrored split heel provide a delicate appeal with just a little edge.

Though these shoes are entirely intoxicating on their own, you H-A-V-E to take them out for a twirl and a drink. A mojito or mint julep will easily echo the charm of these heels, but aren't you tired of those already? Try something new, and spring for a Mint Summer Nightini. This one came courtesy of the folks at CocktailTimes and blends (and I quote) Stoli Blackberri, cucumber juice, simple syrup and muddled mint leaves. It's sweet, but crisp and is the ideal drink for an evening such as this.

Almost There Thursday: Sam Edelman Slingbacks and Goldschlager

Gilty as Charged!

The week's almost over, what shall you wear? A shoe with a heel that's barely there, of course. Sam Edelman's "Nova" (available at shop.com) proves your shoes can be at a low altitude but still high on style. While many think a shoe such as this is better saved for evening soirées, we at S&B say you can easily wear them during the day, especially with ankle-length jeans or pants. The peep toe and slingback make them fine for work (in less conservative environments), but the crackled gold finish and 2.75 inch heel say they're also perfect for play.

Whether you're wearing these sandals to happy hour or the hottest nightspot, you have to order a drink with the "Midas touch". Start with a shot of Goldschlager at your favorite dive bar (don't want everyone to see you drink like a coed), if you dare. If you've never had it, it tastes like Red Hots on acid. Then, at the bar du jour, request a Goldfinger. A combination of Goldschlager, Grand Marnier and ginger ale, it's a sweet, spicy way to kick your summer fun into high gear.

Fun Friday: Stella McCartney Sandals and Chopin Vodka

Florally Fixated...

It's the last day of the week, and you're feeling quite festive. Treat your feet to a shoe bouquet, like this pair of anklewrap platforms from Stella McCartney (available at Intermix). Floral-printed canvas on a 5 inch pale wood heel says you're a free spirit, but you've got a discriminating eye for style. Great with this summer's maxi dresses, they add a breezy flair to whatever you wear.

In case you didn't know, Stella McCartney designs with the environment in mind. When you wear her shoes, it only makes sense to choose a drink that's equally Earth-friendly. Try the "Heavenly Hibiscus." From the eco-focused folks at American Feast, this drink blends Chopin Vodka (made from naturally grown potatoes), hibiscus syrup, Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge, lime juice and hibiscus syrup (made from hibiscus tea). While the syrup adds the purple tint and a floral flavor, it may be hard to find, so if your bartender doesn't have it you can do without.

Almost There Thursday: Seychelles Shoes and Ketel One

Orange You Glad?

One more day left in the work week- Woo Hoo! Feet a little tired from sporting stilettos? Give your toes a break from their woes, and throw on a pair of low heels. This can be a tough shoe group to pull off, but that's what "Almost There Thursday" is all about. This week, try some playful peep toed pumps, like "Compliments of the Chef" from Seychelles (available on Zappos.com). The 2.5 inch heel on this orange suede pump will keep you comfy, and the peek-a-boo straps on the side add a little zest.

Lower heels mean higher voltage drinks. Run or skip to the bar (because your feet are so happy), and ask for a blood orange cosmopolitan. Make sure you ask the bartender to mix a little extra Ketel One Vodka with the Triple Sec, lime juice and blood orange juice. If they don't have blood orange juice, regular should suffice... it just won't match your shoes as well.

Wild Wednesday: Donald J Pliner and Van Gogh

Croc and Roll (Reader Request)

In perfect timing for a "Wild Wednesday" post (which is always about animal print or exotic skin shoes), Shoe Smitten sent in a picture of her Donald J Pliner "Gisa" Sandals (pictured right and available at Amazon.com) with a request for a drink pairing. These chestnut colored croc-look cuties have a utilitarian hippie feel. Yet, the four inch heel, rubber sole and pairing of suede with embossed leather make them at once sultry and sturdy. A woman who wears these is versatile and maybe a little unpredictable at times... and now that the first half of the work week is over, let the surprises ensue.

Get the party started with a "halfcast Russian". A creamy mixture of Van Gogh Vodka (or any other you prefer), coffee liqueur and cappuccino, it'll definitely give you the boost you need to get through the rest of the week. Go easy on this sauce, though because no one likes a bar busy body.

Cutesy Tuesday: Missoni Sandals and Hendricks Gin

Take a Bow

You're the fun, flirty one in your group, preferring floaty dresses to pencil skirts and pops of color over neutral tones. No shade flaunts your femininity and flair the way fuchsia does, so before you head to happy hour slip on this pair of Missoni platform peep toed pumps (available at DJ Premium). Made from the softest suede and sporting a 4- inch heel with a huge Missoni signature knit bow, these slingbacks are as precious as they are sexy.

Sugary pieces of foot candy such as these call for a drink that's just as sweet. I suggest nibbling the corner of your bottom lip and then asking your bartender for a "pink perfection." Recommended by my personal mixologist, Lyani Powers, it calls for Hendricks Gin (or any high quality brand) mixed with apricot brandy, lemon juice, grenadine and sugar syrup. Remember to sip responsibly, though, because overdoing it can lead to spills on your impossible-to-clean shoes.

Wild Wednesday: Dolce & Gabbana with De Kuyper's

Let's go Crazy

You've made it halfway through the week without losing it, so you've earned the right to let your hair down and let it all hang out for a night. Strut your stuff and show off your wild side with a pair of delectable Dolce & Gabbana strappy snakeskin high heeled sandals (available at eLuxury.com). With a 4.5" stacked wooden heel and thin straps in colors galore, they're a sexy way to put your toes on show. These showstoppers are surprisingly versatile, though, so they'll go with everything from your most demure khaki pencil skirt to your hottest wear-if-you-dare mini.

Know this: you can't don fierce footwear and sip a corny cocktail. Opt instead for something with a little bite. The Purple Hooter- which mixes vodka with De Kuyper raspberry liquor and a little lime juice- will not only get a giggle when you order it, but will also put you in party mode. It doesn't hurt that it kinda matches your shoes too.

Cutesy Tuesday: Fourth of July Fun

Red, White & New

It's officially Summertime, and since a holiday weekend is approaching, I'd say for most of us the living is easy. Whether you're headed to a Fourth of July backyard bbq or out for a night on the town to celebrate Independence Day, these adorably girlish Betsey Johnson "Molly" peep (avail. at endless.com)toes are a fashionable, yet relatively comfortable way to enjoy the festivities. The thick wooden 4.5 inch high heel and sturdy 1.5 inch platform will keep you balanced, and the pretty polka dot bow adds just a touch of innocence. When you wear shoes as summery and feminine as these, be sure to ask the bartender for a drink that's just as fun.

My suggestion is the Rangpur Strawberry Crush. From the minds of the mixologists at bar.com, this cocktail combines the smooth bite of Tanqueray Rangpur Gin with the succulent sweetness of fresh strawberries and fizzy tickle of lemon/lime soda. Pop an American Flag stirrer in there, and you're as patriotic as apple pie. (I do find it a bit tongue in cheek to drink a british liquor to celebrate the day this country gained independence, but it's all in good fun)
