Don't Mess With Me Monday: Alessio Spinelli France Shoes

Back in the Saddle
Last week was an interesting one, and the weekend was cool, but it's a new week. Time to put your nose to the grindstone and focus on what's ahead, no matter how difficult or complicated it may seem. You can simultaneously hearken simpler times and let people know you mean business with an updated, high heeled saddle shoe. This "France Black" shoe by Alessio Spinelli is a perfect example. Black patent "saddle" detail adds sophistication to the contrasting cream canvas toe and back portion of the shoe. Meanwhile, the ribbon laces provide girlish charm, and the 4.25 inch heel gives them sex appeal.

At happy hour tonight, you'll want to sip something creamy and soothing, like a "Naughty but Nice." A combination of Disaronno Amaretto, DeKuyper Peach Pucker, Amarula Cream and a bit of heavy cream, it nice and sweet. However, since it has less of a kick, be mindful not to drink too quickly or too many... or you may find yourself doing something naughty.

Don't Mess With Me Monday: Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Lace Up Heels

Tied & True
You played all weekend, but it's back to work today. It can be tough to walk the line between your sensitive feminine side and the assertive side that makes your male coworkers respect you. Somehow you do it, though, and fabulously. Remind everyone of your balancing skills today in a pair of high heeled oxfords, like these ribbon-laced shoes from Alberta Ferretti. The cream color signals the start of spring, and the menswear inspiration in the patent leather details references your toughness. However, the delicate 4.7 inch heel and grosgrain ribbon shoelaces are undeniably girly. They'll look amazing with frilly frocks (like the Eliza J Women's Ruffle Front Shirt Dress), pencil skirts or pants suits.
Early Spring is the time to switch from dark liquor to light. However, you can cross over slowly. That's why it's the perfect time for a "Brandy Alexander" (recipe & image courtesy of 3scocktails.com). While it's made with Remy Martin Brandy, it's mixture of creme de cacao and heavy cream give it a light, seasonal color. It will definitely have a kick, though, so if you're a lightweight drinker go slowly.

Rocking the Red Pump: National Women & Girls HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day

Life or Death

Georgina Goodman Women's Suede Sparkle Leather PumpNice shoes, right? They're Georgina Goodman's Sparkle Pumps. Normally I'd post a picture of my own red pumps, but I need new ones, so these will have to do. Done swooning? Good... now READ...

Fact: Every 9 and a half minutes someone is infected with HIV in the United States.

Fact: Every 35 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States (and that's only the women who are actually getting tested!)

Fact: Both of those statistics can be drastically changed if we as women take more responsibility for our health by getting tested regularly and having open, honest conversations with our partner(s) before engaging in sexual activities with them.

Today is National Women & Girls HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day. Shoes N Booze is Rocking the Red Pump in hopes that our readers will see it as a catalyst to take control of their health. Ladies, if you're in a casket, your shoes don't matter. After work cocktails may be fun, but antiviral ones aren't. That said, no one will protect you if YOU don't. Know your status, and don't get into bed with a man (or woman) if you don't KNOW his (or hers).

*Facts were obtained from www.TheRedPumpProject.com. Please pay them a visit to learn more about the disease and how you can get involved in the fight. Please also tune into "Rise: the Resurrection Show" this Thursday night at 8 PM Eastern to learn ways of healing, not only for those INfected with the disease, but also those AFfected by it.

Shoes Clues: Monticello Spring 2010

Like any shoemonger worth her weight in stilettos, I'm obsessed with Giuseppe Zanotti, Ruthie Davis, Casadei and the like. However, I also love finding out about new shoe brands (or not so new ones that I simply didn't know about before). That said, imagine my delight when someone from Monticello Shoes asked me to select a pair from their new Spring 2010 collection to receive (gratis) and then review. It was a tough choice.

There was the mint green "Sanaa" ($157.95). I loved the fun color and the flower accent. Plus, I'm a fan of ankle straps on shoes. However, the 3.75 inch heel simply wasn't high enough for me. (They'd be great party shoes, though.)

I got caught up in the fanciness of the silver and plum "Kacey" ($115.95). The 4 inch heel is definitely high enough, and the girlie girl in my loves the bows. However, I had to remind myself that I don't need another pair of silver party shoes (yet).

Then there was "Dora" ($149.95). With a festive, painted 4.25 inch heel, bow accent at the back and lavender platform, it was a sandal after my own heart. However, I found myself wishing the actual upper of the shoe had been a different color (a light tan, maybe).

Finally, I decided on "Mya" ($139.95). The 4.5 inch heel was the perfect height, and the tone on tone tan color made them super neutral. They have a slightly pointed toe, which adds a little sass, and a sexy ankle strap. Once I actually tried them on, though, I was more in love with the feel than the look. They're lined in soft suede, and the "MS Signature comfort padding" felt heavenly on the balls of my feet. Granted, I haven't taken them out on the town yet (because it's still not sandal season). After spending about an hour on my feet in them for the purposes of this review, though, I'm confident they're comfy enough for an afternoon of shopping or a night of dancing. I'd say they're definitely worth the $139.95 price tag. Bring on the Spring! (Oh, if they release Dora in another color, I'm on it!)

*PS A friend of mine is a doctor and asked to keep an eye out for shoes she'll be able to wear to work. Dr. Tye, I suggest giving Monticello a try.

Shoe Score! Top Shelf Style at Well Prices

High Heels, Low Prices

I team don't just sit around lusting over designer shoes. I also shoe shop for sport, and I love a great bargain. I've decided to share my newest goodies with you. (I've kept the brands and locations a secret, but I'll share if you say "pretty please".)

Score #1: $49.99 (you can actually see part of the designer name.)

Score #2: $29.99 (Again, you can make out the designer name for yourself.)

The pumps actually have a rubber sole with pretty deep grooves for traction, making them perfect for winter! What do you think?
