Sketchual Heeling: Ruthie Davis’s Favorites

Drawn to Perfection

Ruthie Davis’s designs range from daring to down right dicey. Her spike-, neon strap- and stud-adorned shoes have complimented the sartorial choices of style inspirers from Beyonce to Lady Gaga, and, well, I swoon every time I spy a pair. She recently shared some of her favorite sketches from the S/S ‘11 collection on her blog, and though I’m still feeling faint from the sight, I figured I’d share a couple of the ones I like most.

Saturday Love: Links! Shoes, Booze, Ooohs and Ahhhs

In the Shoeniverse…

My Life in Heels pic[10]The Shoe Girl stirred up a bit of controversy by observing (cough) similarities between a few Jeffrey Campbell designs and their high end predecessors. She also made me fall in love with Cece L’amour in the process.

Pumpsicle pic[10]Pumpsicle suggested celebrating the 4th of July all week long by wearing “Firecracker Footwear”. Did you wear red, white and blue for Independence Day? I did… all weekend.

Shoe Smitten Louboutin[7]Shoe Smitten picked her first pair of Louboutins. Apparently, my sole sister has a 25th birthday on the horizon… Go give her some bday love, OK?

Queen in Heels Pic[5]Queen in Heels shared her inspirations for writing, blogging and personal style. In doing so, she suggested a couple of places you may find inspiration, too. Where do you most often find things that get your creative cogs going?

Styleite Jason Wu Melissa[11]Styleite gave us the heads up on Jason Wu’s collaboration with Melissa Shoes. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited about this pairing.

In the Spirits World…

Alcademics Diageo India ShoesNBooze[5]Alcademics went to New Delhi, India for the Diageo Reserve World Class Global Final 2011 cocktail competition. (I’m currently suffering from severe travel envy.)

**Want a shout for your shoe or booze blog??? Drop me a line. I can’t promise that I’ll list everyone, but if it tickles my fancy, I’ll point my readers in your direction.

Fun Friday: Ruthie Davis Palm Springs Pumps

Neon Cameleon

Ruthie Davis Palm Springs Pump ShoesNBooze

If you’re on the East coast today, the gray skies may have you feeling a bit blue. But it’s Friday! (Friday… gotta get down on Friday. *Rebecca Black voice*) Be the bright spot in everyone’s day with a pair of neon patent leather pumps, like the Palm Springs by Ruthie Davis. The 5 inch stacked heel, platform and peep toe are staples in shoe styling at the moment and make them versatile… like your attitude. However the neon spin on the color blocking trend that’s so big this season really makes them stand out. If you don’t want to go too far out there with your look, wear them with something neutral, like khaki or olive dress.

Pisco Porton Lime Slushy ShoesNBoozeIt may be raining, but it’s still HOT out. Cool down at happy hour with a Pisco Porton Lime Raspadilla. With a flavor that’s somewhere between vodka and tequila in strength, the Peruvian white spirit is a great playmate for the tangy taste of lime.

Recipe: 2 ½ parts Pisco Portón, ½ part Rose's lime juice, ½ part fresh lime juice, Sugar for rim, Lime slice garnish

Method: Fill blender with ice and wet ingredients. Blend until frozen. Rub the rim of a tall glass with a lime slice so that the sugar will stick, then rim the glass with sugar and add blended ingredients. Garnish with a lime slice.

After a few of these, you won’t care about the weather or the week you’ve had. However, after too many, you also won’t care that your speech is slurred and your stumbling down the street. That said, be responsible.

Booze Clues: 6 Drinks to Try on the 4th of July

Red, White & Booze

Fireworks, flags and fun… Independence Day is on its way, which means the smell of barbecue will fill the air. This year, instead of washing down your burgers with a cold beer, sip a patriotic-looking cocktail (or 5).

Voga Sparkler

Voga Sparkler ShoesNBooze

No 4th of July celebration is complete without sparklers. Some prefer holding sticks with sparks flying off one end, but I’m more in favor of something sparkling in my glass. This cocktail is refreshing and slightly sweet, but not too strong for light drinkers.

Recipe:

2 oz. VOGA Sparkling Pino Grigio

.5 oz. vodka

.5 oz. Raspberry Liqueur

.5 oz. Soho Lychee Liqueur

Method:

Combine vodka, raspberry liqueur and soho lychee liqueur in the bottom of a champagne flute.Top with VOGA Sparkling Pinot Grigio

Belvedere Liberty Summer Punch

Belvedere Liberty Punch ShoesNBoozePerhaps you’re entertaining this weekend. You’ll be able to spend more time with your guests and less time behind the bar if you prepare a pitcher or two of punch ahead of time. This tangy, tart treat is strong enough to keep things festive but not fuel drunken fights.

Recipe:

15oz cranberry juice
2.5oz lemon juice
3.5oz Aperol
5oz orange juice
Dash of bitters
Dash of simple syrup

Method:
Add all ingredients to a jug and stir. Garnish with orange slices and lemons.

Xante 4th of July Frozen Berry

Xante Frozen Berry

A frozen treat is a great way to beat the summer heat, and it’s even better when it’s spiked with something Semi-sweet.

Recipe:

1 1/2 oz of Xanté

1 1/2 oz of fresh lemon juice

Strawberries Fresh or Frozen

Dash of sugar to taste

Blend with ice

UV Blue Bombsicle

UV blue-bombsicle ShoesNBoozeRemember Bomb Pops… the blue raspberry, cherry and lemon icee on a stick that turned your tongue and lips blue, but tasted so good they were worth Smurf mouth? Well if you got rid of the cherry, and made it into a drink, this is what you’d have.
