Red Carpet Recap: Oscar Night Shoe Wins

Highly Acclaimed

The 84th annual Academy Awards came with its fair share of fan fair. Viola Davis wore her natural hair, Meryl Streep took home the gold, J-Lo had a quasi nip slip and then there was Angelina Jolie’s look-at-me leg. Still, the stand out moments for me were mostly below the ankles.

Best Actress winner, Meryl Streep, may have once been the “Devil” in Prada, but last night she looked like a goddess in her shimmering gold Lanvin gown and matching Salvatore Ferragamo Frangrance peep toes (a few pairs of the red satin rendition are still available at Luisaviaroma.com). Her look drew disapproval from lots of critics, but compared to her Golden Globes ensemble, I’d say it was a win.

Octavia Spencer, who won for Best Supporting Actress, was radiant in her Tadashi Shoji gown. It was so long it didn’t offer a peek at her shoes, but the word on the street is that she wore a pair of gold Linda sandals by Jimmy Choo.

Never one to shy away from bold hues, Best Actress nominee, Viola Davis was gorgeous in her green Vera Wang gown. The sweeping accordion pleats of the gown swept the floor, so I’ll have to take the Jimmy Choo crew’s word for it when they say she wore their Suki Sandals. It seems they’re not available for purchase presently, but here they are.

Runway Recap: Milan Fall 2012 RTW Fave Shoes- Jil Sander, Uniqueness…

Jil Sander

Jil-Sander_Fall-2012_Style

Raf Simons’ swan song for Jil Sander was marked by calm elegance. While much of the collection nodded to the late 60s, the shoes were more of a futuristic reference. I, for one, wouldn’t mind this pair of pink-trimmed pumps being part of my future. **Image via Style.com

Uniqueness

Uniqueness_Fall-2012_RTW_WWD

Alessandra Facchinetti took the term “ready to wear” literally in the Uniqueness Fall 2012 collection, so much so that it became available online the day of its Fashion Week presentation. Throughout the collection, it was clear that the 1920s were part of the designers mood board, and there was a whisper of art deco in the shoes. Suede pumps with metallic zig-zag T-straps, anyone? **Image via WWD

Antonio Marras

ANTONIO-MARRAS-FALL-2012-RTW_ELLE

Fifties chic, folkloric fabrics and bits of fur would seem to combat each other in a collection, but somehow they worked well in Antonio Marras’ ultra feminine showing for fall 2012. The shoes were ladylike, as well. Don’t these velvet color blocked, cap toe pumps look demure?

Runway Recap: Milan Fall 2012 RTW Fave Shoes- Just Cavalli, Blumarine

Day 3

Most designers seemed to play it safe on the third day of Milan Fashion week. I’m not saying the shoes were ugly… just not all that exciting. Well, with the exception of these two:

Just Cavalli

JUST-CAVALLI-FALL-2012-RTW- ELLE

Roberto Cavalli let the good times roll with his Fall 2012 collection for the younger-skewed Just Cavalli line. From animal prints to metallics, with a bit PVC thrown in, the collection was a nod to retro pop and mod motifs. The shoes were pretty exciting, too. These sparkly ankle booties are quite shagadellic. **Image via ELLE.com

Blumarine

Blumarine’s Fall 2012 presentation was a sartorial light show, of sorts, with neon Mongolian furs, iridescent pieces, animal prints and glossy metallics. A bit much for many, but a visual pleasure for me (mostly). I could easily see myself in these silver heeled quasi hiking booties. Also on the wishlist? The iridescent biker boots. **Image via ELLE.com

Runway Recap: Milan, Fall 2012 RTW Fave Shoes of the Day- Prada, Fendi...

Day 2 of the Milan ready to wear shows were definitely more exciting on the footwear front. Here’s what caught my eye:

Blugirl

Blugirl Fall2012 RTW Milan

I’m a sucker for saddle shoes, especially when they have heels. Add bright, bubbly colors and I’m all in. Blugirl, these pastel cap toe oxfords are a win. **Photo by Piero Cristaldi via WWD

Fendi

Fendi AW Fall2012 ELLE

Multi color is one thing, but multicolor AND multi-material is different level of awesome (when done properly). Fendi’s Fall 2012 booties mixed leather, pony hair and sometimes snakeskin to create a look that was at once serious and fun. **Image via ELLE

Runway Recap: Milan Fashion Week RTW Shoes of the Day- No. 21, John Richmond

Fashion VIPs have descended upon Milan to see the Italian interpretation of Fall 2012 fashion. Since this is known to many as the shoe capital of the world, I figure we’ll be riveted to the models’ feet. For the first day, only two designers grabbed my attention, though.

No. 21

No 21 AW 12 WWD

Alessandro Dell’Acqua is said to have been inspired by Queen Elizabeth for his No. 21 Fall 2012 collection. While the clothes were a loose reflection of that inspiration, the shoes… well, not so much. Still, I’m a sucker for a metallic peep toe platform with an ankle strap. **Photo by Piero Cristaldi via WWD

John Richmond

John Richmond AW12 WWD

John Richmond said his Fall 2012 ready to wear collection had gothic and punk influences. However, suiting, dresses and gowns that read borderline bridal all seemed more buttoned up than emo-dark. The shoes weren’t very rebellious, either. A metallic platform gladiator-ish sandal with tasseled ankle ties seems more goddess than goth, no? **Photo by Piero Cristaldi via WWD

Wild Wednesday- National Margarita Day: ZiGiNY Spark Booties

Salud!

ZiGiNY Spark Bootie

It’s a short week for most of us, thanks to President’s Day, but it’s been tough playing catch up, hasn’t it? Never the type to crack under pressure, you’re tackling tasks and looking great while doing it. Dole out an extra dose of fierce today. Wear a pair of leopard print shoes in a red hot hue, like these Spark Booties by ZiGiNY (available for $379.95 on endless.com). Their double 1.5 inch platform with a jeweled insert and 5 inch mirrored wedge heel might raise an eyebrow at the office, and red leopard print pony hair is often more appropriate for the bar than the board room. Still, you’ve got a knack for wearing what you want where you want. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention, though, that the double platform trend is on its last leg, so get it in while you can.

Herradura French Margarita

How funny is it that National Margarita Day is also the first day of Lent this year? If you didn’t give up alcohol and hanging out, when you head to happy hour this evening, wash your woes away with a Herradura French Margarita. Made with Herradura Blanco, Chambord, Triple Sec and Sweet & Sour Mix, it’s a blackberry flavored spin on the classic margarita. Thanks to the Chambord, the flavor has a little less kick than other margaritas, but there’s still just as much alcohol. That said, don’t go too heavy on these. You already had off Monday. The boss might not be fond of you taking off Thursday for a “stomach flu thingie”.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

· 1 ½ oz Herradura Blanco

· ½ oz Chambord

· ¼ oz Triple Sec

· 3 oz Sweet and Sour Mix

Garnish: Lime wedge

Preparation:

1) Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a salt-rimmed, ice-filled martini or margarita glass.

2) Garnish with a lime wedge.

Celebrity Shoe Spotting: Katherine Heigl in Aruna Seth

Katherine Heigl Aruna Seth Shoes N Booze

When I think of Katherine Heigl- and Aruna Seth shoes, for that matter- glamorous images often come to mind. However, I guess we all have to relax at some point. During some recent downtime in LA, the former Grey’s Anatomy star paired her plaid button up shirt and jeans with Aruna Seth’s Jemmima flats.

Grossgrain ribbon and gold button details give the sandals a girly touch, but they’re not so overly femme that they can’t be worn with looks like Heigl’s. Got an extra $510? You can get your own pair HERE. Want the style but can’t foot the bill? Here are a few similar renditions of the look for less:

Runway Recap: NYFW RTW Shoes 2/9/12- Honor, Costello Tagliapietra, Chadwick Bell

‘Twas the first official day of New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and all the front rows were filled with celebrities and editors from Anna Wintour to Rachel Zoe. The models were dressed all types of shapes and hues, but my focus here was –you guessed it- the shoes. This is by no means a comprehensive view, but it is a glimpse at my favorites.

Honor

NYFW AW12 Honor by Tabitha Simmons WWD

High heeled loafers will be back for Fall 2012, at least according according to Tabitha Simmons shoes for Honor’s ready to wear show. Embellished with prints from the collection and bits of hardware, they perfectly mix his and hers. *image by Giovanni Giannoni via WWD

Costello Tagliapietra

NYFW AW12 Costello Tagliapietra WWD

Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra are known for their soft, feminine creations, where draping and movement are focal points. The shoes for their Fall 2012 ready to wear show, with their pointy toes and dainty contrasting ankle straps were all things demure. **Image by Thomas Iannaccone via WWD

Chadwick Bell

NYFW AW12 Chadwick Bell WWD

Chadwick Bell’s Fall collection wasn’t a favorite among editors, however I found his babydoll platforms adorable. Mary Janes of sorts with suede ties and contrasting platforms, they had a sexy lolita vibe. **Image by Giovanni Gianonni via WWD

Trend Talk: Leslie Gallin’s top 5 Shoe Trends for Fall 2012 at FN Platform

A Platform of Promise

Lots of us look to the runways for what trends will be big in the coming seasons. However, whether you realize it or not, a many of the styles we see during fashion week take a few seasons to actually trickle down to those of us who can’t afford to shop at Bergdorf Goodman and the like. Trade shows, like FN Platform, though, are a time when we can see exactly what we should expect to see in most stores next season. I won’t be able to make it to FN PLATFORM this year, but Leslie Gallin, Vice President, Footwear at  Advanstar (the company that presents the MAGIC and FN PLATFORM trade shows) shared her predictions about what styles will be most prevalent at the show.

franco sarto1. Reptile Skins – Crocodile and snakeskin materials were spotted on the runways, but will be in full force by fall/winter 2012-13. From off-the-runway to off-the-rack, a bevy of brands have adopted this trend for the upcoming season. (Wedge sandal by Franco Sarto)

2. Mixed Materials – A fresh take on a footwear classic, brands are adding mixed materials (textures & metallics) for a luxe vibe on an otherwise tailored shoe.

3. Buckles – For those seeking comfort and style, buckles are here to stay as a finishing detail.

blossom4. Electric Hues – Vibrant tones have been spotted everywhere in accessories. This upcoming season will pair the toned down shades with bold color combinations for extra pop! (Platform sandal by Blossom)

5. Tailored Styles – Sleek lines and rich details such as shiny patent leather materials, have men and women walking in sophisticated, tailored looks
