Celebrity Shoe Spotting: Ashley Judd in Alexandre Birman

Ashley Judd in Alexandre Birman ShoesNBooze

Ashley Judd, a newly recognized image issues activist, wore a pair of metallic strappy Alexandre Birman sandals to a recent screening of her new series Missing (photo via Just Jared). Though she’s been on a press tour for the series, she’s been getting more attention lately for a post on her blog entitled “The Conversation”, where she discusses the way women’s appearances are (often harmfully) discussed and verbally dissected. I think she looks pretty good in this picture, and how can you not love a classy metallic strappy sandal. She wore a gold snakeskin version of Alexandre Birman’s Mia sandal (pictured below in gold leather).

Shoes Clues: Style Tips from Brad Goreski

I recently had a brief shoe chat with celebrity stylist and reality TV star, Brad Goreski during Alexandre Birman’s Fashion Week event at SAKS FIFTH AVENUE. After he complimented me on my makeup (which I did all by myself. Hey now!), I asked him for recommendations on which shoes a woman should wear in certain situations to get particular results. Mr. “It’s a Brad Brad World” (premiering on BRAVO in 2012) currently dresses Jessica Alba, a frequent best dressed lister, so I’d say he knows a thing or two.

S&B: What should a woman wear to let a date know he’d better bring his A game?

Brad: A seriously high platform with spikes. (I took creative license and pictured the Ruthie Davis Spikette Deluxe here because Alexandre Birman didn’t do a spiked platform this season)

S&B: And if she’s going to a job interview?

Brad: A pump with personality… like something in a patent or snakeskin. Go with a twist on a classic. (Like this burgundy python number by Alexandre Birman- available at SAKS)

S&B: What about a shoe that says she’s looking for fun?

Brad: Color! Neons… I saw a turquoise snakeskin loafer around here… (Here they are… Alexandre Birman python loafers)

(S&B sidebar- I think the loafer’s awesome, but if you’re like me and have a high heel habit, maybe go for something like this Jerome C. Rousseau Isy sandal)

S&B: OK, here’s the last question… what should a woman wear to catch the eye of a special guy- but not seem too fussy?

Brad: A sleek ankle boot. Elongate those legs, honey! (I think he’d approve either of these booties from Alexandre Birman.)

Wondering what brad had on his feet? Here ya go!

Oh… and my makeup… #youcare (subtle silver eye with a candy pink lip… I need to work on my photography skills because you can barely even see my makeup in this picture.)

Booze Clues: What to Drink While Watching the Royal Wedding

Fairy Tales Do Come True

Will you be watching William and Catherine take their vows in real time (the televised festivities start around 4 AM Eastern) or recording them to watch later? My suggestion is a grown up fairy tale slumber party, complete with haute heels, glam hats and, of course, classy cocktails (you may want to also tell your boss you’re working from home tomorrow). I have nothing against early morning mimosas, but here’s a list of regally themed cocktails better suited for the event.

Chambord Regal CV

Ingredients: 2 oz Chambord Flavored Vodka, ¾ oz simple syrup
3 slices of cucumber (skin on), 3 fresh raspberries, ½ oz fresh lemon juice

Method: Muddle the raspberries, cucumber, and simple syrup. Add to a shaker with lemon juice and Chambord Flavored Vodka. Add ice and shake vigorously. Double stain into a martini glass or a large coupe glass and garnish with a.slice of cucumber and / or a fresh raspberry.

*From the mind of author & event expert, Colin Cowie, this sweet sipper is a great option for liquor lightweights.

Drambuie English Rose

In a Champagne flute, add: 1 Sugar Cube, 3 drops Orange Bitters, 1 oz. DRAMBUIE

Slowly top with: 4 oz. chilled Blanc de Noirs Champagne, Splash Campari, 3 drops Rosewater

Garnish with a thinly-sliced strawberry fanned and floated on top.

This cocktail tastes light and refreshing… but complex enough for discerning tastes. *If you’re not familiar with Drambuie, it’s a combination of aged Scotch whiskies, heather honey and a blend of herbs and spices.

Kate’s Old New Borrowed Blue

Ingredients: 2 oz. Tea-Infused Russian Standard Vodka, 0.25 oz Vermouth, 6 blueberries

Method: Rinse a chilled martini glass with vermouth. Combine tea-infused Russian Standard Vodka and ice in a shaker and strain into glass. Garnish with blueberries.

*This is a martini-lover’s cocktail, but if you’re a fan of sweet drinks, this one might not be your favorite.

Devotion Vodka Totally Devoted Mini Cran-Tini

Ingredients: 1 oz. of Devotion Vodka, .25 oz of triple sec, .25 oz of vermouth, 2 oz. cranberry juice cocktail.

Method: Pour into your cocktail shaker over rocks and shake it up before straining into adorable mini-martini glasses.

*This concoction is a great middle ground if your crowd is split between girly drinkers and those who like a bit of a kick in their drinks. Devotion Vodka is infused with casein, which is said to smooth it out.

Belvedere Earl Grey Fizz

Ingredients: 1 oz Belvedere Vodka (or Citrus), ¾ oz Earl grey tea syrup.

Method: Shake ingredients and strain into a champagne flute. Top with Moet et Chandon Brut Imperial. Garnish with a Lemon twist or redcurrants.

This sparkly libation is perfect for toasting after the Prince kisses his bride. Cheers!

Whether you’ve already found your prince, or you’re still kissing frogs, one of these cocktails will help you bring out your inner princess… just call me your cocktail fairy godmother.

Much Ado About Shoes: Bourgoisie Shoetique Event

Shoes & Ooooohs!

The Shoes & Booze team has decided to add a new feature to the blog. You see, we often attend fabulous fetes featuring fierce footwear, and we've realized it's only right that we share. Therefore, when you see "Much Ado About Shoes" in the title, you know it's event coverage.

Now, onto business! I attended Bourgeoisie Shoetique's spring affair "The Platform" in Harlem, NY this past Thursday night. (Partial proceeds went to the EIF Revlon Walk.) Haute girls in attendance at the swanky shoe soiree included host Selita Ebanks (Victoria's Secret model), Melyssa Ford (model), Bevy Smith (Big sis to the team & fashion correspondent), cast members from BET's Harlem Heights and my partner in style for the night, Liris Crosse (model/ actress). We sipped wine and tropical Belvedere cocktails while gnoshing on mini crab cakes, macaroni & cheese and other yummy hors d'eouvres. The models and celebs looked amazing, but what got me were the shoes! Models carried illuminated trays displaying some serious foot candy, and there were plenty of treats inside the boutique too! Liris is holding one of my favorite pairs, a platinum platform by Sergio Rossi. I also fell in love with pairs from Gianmarco Lorenzi's bronze hardware platform and Giuseppe Zanotti's black & cream Nero platform. (Both below, respectively.)
