Shoe Sleuth: 4 'Round-the-Clock Dress Boots Under $150

Trade Show Survival Shoes

A recent reader request:

"Dear Shoe Sleuth,
I'll be attending an international trade show in the near future and will be on my feet all day for multiple days. I'l also be meeting clients with whom I've worked remotely for years, and the weather is likely to be cool and rainy. My budget is $150. Please help me find shoes!

Sincerely,
A reader who wants to work it and still be able to walk"

Dear  Reader,

It sounds like you need shoes that are comfortable and versatile with an air of sophistication. They should also be fairly versatile because chances are you'll be heading out for dinner, drinks and/ or events after walking the trade show floor. Wet, chilly weather means you don't want to do suede. All of that said, I see how the price point is a challenge, but I've found you some options. Even if none of these are an exact match, they're a good starting point.

Black heel, lace-up shoe by Bettye Muller

Menswear-inspired with a pointed toe and block heel, this lace-up Quincy shoe from Bettye by Bettye Muller works with a suit or pencil skirt and tights. Later, pair this oxford with jeans, a fitted mini or something frilly for just the right amount of edge. (Available at Lori's Shoes)

cushioned dress boot by earthies
This sleek Del Rey bootie by Earthies is all about angles. An asymmetric shaft, slanted heel and stylized seams create clean lines and stylize what would otherwise be a run-of-the-mill flat bootie. Featuring the Earthies Wellness Footbed, it has a specially contoured cushion for extra support and comfort. It's also available in black, but the pewter version stands out a little more. (Available at 6pm.com)

comfort dress boot by isola

Block-heel booties have been on must-have lists for the last few seasons because of their tendency to be versatile and relatively comfy. This Corbin bootie by Isola is an ideal mashup between fashion, function and comfort with its classic styling, stacked 3-inch heel and latex comfort footbed. Slacks, jeans, skinny pants and sweaterdresses will all play well with this style. (Available at Isola.com)

Tall wedge boot by Nine West

A tall boot with a wedge heel is a great way to go for easy elegance, as well. This Heartset boot by Nine West has gotten pretty good customer reviews for walkability, and it's a style that can be dressed up or down without much effort. It has a 3 inch heel, but if you're accustomed to 4-inch stilettos, this height will be ideal for long days. (Available at Amazon.com)

Another option is to add a gel cushion to the inside of your favorite boots. I'd love to know your thoughts on these choices. Other reader, do you have a favorite pair of shoes for long days? Is there another brand we should check out? Let us know in the comments.

Shoe Sleuth: Gold Pumps for Girls Night Out

New York resident, Devon, recently contacted us with a fairly urgent request for help finding gold shoes to wear with a fitted black sheath dress and gold statement necklace for an upcoming night out with the girls. The catch: she needed something within two days and wanted to spend around $60. Also, since Jack Frost hasn't decided to leave the East Coast for the season yet, she preferred closed toes. The Shoes N Booze Shoe Sleuth scoured the sale sections of some of her favorite sites (paying special attention to those that also have brick-and-mortar locations), and here are the resulting suggestions:

 Enzo Angiolini Persist Pump
Enzo Angiolini Persist Pump

This dazzling sequined Persist pump by Enzo Angiolini (59.95 via DSW.com) has a great ombre effect. After girls' night out, they'll be a go-to for wedding season.

 Nina Edrica Pump
Nina Edrica Pump
Encrusted in tiny rhinestones, this Edrica pump by Nina ($54.99 via 6pm.com) adds quite a bit of sparkle to your step. Bonus: the hidded platform means you can dance all night.

 Report Signature Murphy Pump
Report Signature Murphy Pump
The block heel and single sole on this metallic Murphy pump by Report Signature ($48.30 via LastCall.com) make it totally trend right. Plus, this is one you can wear to the office with a pencil skirt or out to brunch with a pair of distressed jeans.

 London Trash Domina Pump

The high collar on this Domina pump by London Trash ($69.99 via Bakersshoes.com) adds an extra dose of fierce to its look, and the pebbled metallic suede makes it glamorous. This one has a 5" heel and no platform, though, so a pair of cushioned inserts is highly recommended. They're a little over the requested price, but I'd say they're worth it.

 Joan & David Amandie pump
Joan & David Amandie Pump

Even if it wasn't for girls' night out, this animal print Joan & David Amandie pump ($59.97 via C21stores.com) would be a must-have. Leopard print is the new neutral, so it goes anywhere with almost anything. Further, the glold dots add a subtle metallic sheen that seriously ups its style ante.

Devon, hopefully one of these pairs will carry you through an amazing night out with your friends. Feel free to let us know which, if any, you picked. Ladies, if you need to put the Shoe Sleuth on a case, please feel free to send a note here or via the Shoes N Booze Facebook page.

Shoe Sleuth: 5 Cool Sneaker Suggestions for a Hot Mom

A woman named Elise recently sent a request via the Shoes N Booze Facebook page asking for help finding cool, colorful sneakers to wear causally. She prefers the look of a certain brand but has found the quality of the actual sneakers to be sub-par. Consequently, she's on the hunt for a pair that will not only hold up to her daily commute, but also to chasing her young son around. Slip-on sneakers might be the 'IT' style of spring '14, but she prefers a lace-up running sneaker with a retro vibe, and her max price is $125. Here's what we found:

Nike Air Pegasus 83 Sneaker
Nike Air Pegasus '83*
The Nike Air Pegasus '83 ($75 via Amazon.com) is easy to pair with almost anything, thanks to its gray color, and pops of bright orange and fuchsia keep it fun and season-right. Plus, the darker coloration is great for a mom because it'a a little tougher for stains to show.

New Balance 501

This New Balance 501 Retro sneaker ($59.45 via shoebuy.com) keeps you in step with Pantone's color of 2014- Radiant Orchid. Granted, that's not the color listed for this shoe, but it looks close enough, no?

 Le Coq Sportif Eclat Sneaker
Le Coq Sportif Eclat
The light color of this Le Coq Sportif Eclat sneaker ($122.32 via ASOS.com) means you'll have to keep a Tide stick or wipes on hand at all times (you do that anyway, don't you?). But c'mon... they're Le Coq Sportif! The ultimate in 80s cool and totally worth the trouble.

Saucony Shadow Original

Berry blue and bright pink are a vivid combination on this Saucony Shadow Original ($48.00 via Saucony.com). With it's thicker sole, it may not be the most versatile sneaker, but it's a great bet for a day spent running errands.

Gola Running Sneaker

This Gola running sneaker ($69.00 via YOOX.com) makes the perfect wear-with-all because of its sleeker look. Turquoise, gray and white with a dash of pink keep the sneaker feminine without being over-the-top girly.

Elise, hopefully one of these suggestions is a step in the right direction.
