Don’t Mess With Me Monday: Sam Edelman Winsford Booties

A Hot Toddie for a Haute Hottie

Sam Edelman Winsford ShoesNBoozeMother Nature gave some people a white Christmas this year, and dumped loads of snow on others just in time to screw with their Monday morning commutes. You’re not the type to let that stop your show, though. It’s a good thing shearling styling is a shoe staple this season. These Sam Edelman Winsford ankle boots (available via DNA Footwear for $209.99) are the perfect partner in the battle against the treacherous terrain and temperatures. The lug sole provides traction, and the 1.5 inch platform will keep the salt and grimy build up on the street from ruining your shoes. The 5 inch demi wedge heel might be a tough balancing act for some, but it’s a cake walk for you, and the fact that it’s a bit chunky only makes it better. Then there’s the clog-like detailing and furry ankle accent, which provide a rugged, yet cozy look.

Flor de Cana Hot Toddy Shoes N BoozeTonight when you wet your whistle, you’ll want to warm it, too. Chase the chill from your bones with a Spiced Hot Toddy made of spiced Flor de Caña Nicaraguan rum, boiling water butter and a cinnamon stick. It’s a smooth, soothing, slightly spicy way to end your day. Plus, the Flor de Caña is strong enough to keep your street cred with your drinking buddies. That means if you drink too many, you may be teetering on those 5 inch heels. Remember, there’s ice on the ground, and your backside definitely won’t enjoy a swift trip to a concrete kiss.

12 Days of Christmas: Day 8- Eight Shades of Milky- Shoes

Cream of the Crop

On the Eighth Day of Christmas I hope the Shoe Fairy brings to me:

Eight pairs of milky-hued shoes! It takes a lot of chops to wear white or cream footwear in the Winter, but I'm all for it. I'll take tall cream boots, like the military inspired "Alta Fifre" by Christian Louboutin, or a pair of
"Lizette" bone peep toed ankle boots, by N.Y.L.A. (available at Heels.com). I can also get my Leighton Meester on in Giuseppe Zanotti's white studded cutout booties or channel Blair Waldorf in off white mary janes, like Michael Lewis's "Ellery" pumps. Bruno Bordese's cream 9876 ankle boots, with their cognac accents and marbleized platforms and heels, will look great with a chunky sweater. A snake-embossed cuff and metal heel add a little edge to these "Rizzo" booties by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's Elizabeth and James. The stark contrast between white leather and black elastic on Asos' "Saxon" booties have a Star Wars feel, but they'll look great with skinny jeans. Lastly, Givenchy's taupe wrapped jersey peep toed booties will easily take me into Spring 2010.

Seven shoes a'shining! "Bionic" pink and purple platform pumps from Ruthie by Ruthie Davis, Carvela's deep purple Sleaze booties, Bright metallics, like Rupert Sanderson's purple Winona pumps and Laurence Dacade's electric blue JO booties, Marc By Marc Jacobs' bright pink 605957 round toed pumps, oxfords by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti and Christian Louboutin's "Madame Claude" d'orsay peep toed pumps.

Six Feats of Graying! Thigh high "New Davis" suede boots by Brian Atwood (available at Net-A-Porter), Cesare Paciotti's studded, belted knee boots (avialable at myprestigium.com), Oxford ankle boots in gray suede and leather by Neil Barrett (available at The Corner), and a pair of Sergio Rossi "Fishnet" booties- (from the SS/10 collection), Jeffery Campbell's "Michelle" gray suede pumps (available at Akira Chicago), and Barbara Bui's "Choked Ankle" pumps (available at ShopBop.com).

Five Golden Rings! Actually, I'd prefer five pairs of golden shoes: a pair of knee-high boots with sculpted heels, like Behnaz Kanani's "Delroba Gold" boots, peep toed gold ankle boots, like Le Silla's limited edition "Mirror" booties and Max Kibardin's "Margot" fringed peep toes, (both available at Gregory's Shoes), a couple of pairs of gold pumps, like Diego Dolcini's metallic pointed pumps (available at FarFetch.com) and KG by Kurt Geiger's gold "Dolly" sequined pumps
(available at KurtGeiger.com).

Four Pairs of Feathered Footwear: Feathered and jeweled booties by Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain (available at ShopBop.com), Jimmy Choo's "Mable" feather-adorned sandals (available at Saks Fifth Avenue), Bourne's "Hayden" satin peep toes (available at Lord & Taylor), "Carla" peacock feathered sandals by Martinez Valero (available at MartinezValero.com).

Three "French" pumps... Well 3 pairs by prominent French designer, Roger Vivier.

2 Pairs of Yves Saint Laurent Imperiale boots that go over my knee.

And...

A pair of Nicholas Kirkwood Egypt platforms in purple alligator.

Wear or Beware: Proenza Schouler OI9706 Booties

A Bootie Like no Other

When the fashion editors told us what we should be wearing for A/W '09-10 (that's Autumn/ Winter 2009-2010 for those who don't live for the moment their BAZAAR, ELLE and VOGUE Magazines arrive in their mailboxes), their list was pretty lengthy. There were booties, platforms, oxfords, sculpted heels, pops of neon on neutrals, men's inspirations and some others. Somehow, Proenza Schouler managed to hit ALL of those with one shoe (Available at Zappos.com). They're definitely fashion forward and unique. However, are they sexy? Clunky? Haute stuff or a haute mess? What do you think? StyleScrybe will share her thoughts after a few comments...

Don't Mess with Me Monday: Giorgio Armani Booties and Absinthe Awakenings

Fit to be Tied

It's so hard to get up and out when it seems like the rest of the world has the day off, isn't it. Your office doesn't do Columbus day, though, and you're such an over achiever that you'd work from home anyway. To top it all off, you're in a bit of a strange mood (channeling Ms. Hannighan, perhaps?). Maybe it's the changing weather. A patchy pair of lace up booties, like this one from Giorgio Armani (or something similar), are just what you need today. Yes, there's a dark, autumnal feel to them, but the light seafoam green patches add a bit of optimism. A heel that's almost 5 inches high never hurt your disposition either. Now, if you could only shake that pesky feeling of fatigue.

Your morning coffee never did actually kick in, and the one after lunch only kept you from falling asleep during your weekly conference call. However, you can't bring yourself to miss Monday Night Football with the girls. Tonight your drink of choice should be the Awakening. A definite "big girl" drink, it combines Lucid Absinthe, Starbucks Coffee Liqueur and Starbucks Creme Liqueur. While the new incarnation of Absinthe doesn't contain enough wormwood to be hallucinogenic, it still makes a strong drink. The characteristic licorice flavor will be muted some by the coffee, but the general taste of the drink will be an eye opener if nothing else. As always, mind your intake. You might not hallucinate, but too many tonight could lead to your seeing stars in the morning.

Almost There Thursday: Lovely People Piper Booties and Smurf Cocktails

True Blue

Fall officially began a couple of days ago, and while the thermometer doesn't exactly reflect the change of seasons, your fashion sense does. You may go back to peep toes next week, but at the moment you're all about autumn. Honey, you'll be hot (as in gasping for air and sweating) in tall boots, but haute (as in inspirational) in a pair of open-faced booties, like the these blue Piper ankle skimmers from Lovely People. You're not really into the high-heel hype, so their three inch heel height is definitely your forte. The ruffles are so "this season," as is the color. Plus, the open face means you can do the sans-socks/ stockings look now and then opt for opaque tights once the temperature starts to drop. (We suggest black, gray or an eye popping hue like neon green.) Oh, and lower heels tend to mean the possibility for higher cocktail intake (slimmer chances of taking an ugly tumble).

These shoes have an 80's pop appeal that may transport some of us back to the cartoon-laden days of our childhoods. Smurfs anyone? (Seriously... they definitely have a little Smurfette flair.) That said, order a Smurf (recipe and image courtesy of BlueBuddies.com) at happy hour tonight. It's a fruity-flavored concoction that combines Strawberry Vodka (Stolichnaya Strasberi should do the trick), Blue Curacao, a little lime juice and a bit of lemon/lime soda. If you're one who's into strong drinks, have the bartender use less soda and more vodka. However... be sure to check for blue teeth and tongue frequently. The cute guy who just walked in may dig blue shoes, but a blue you might be a bit much.

Don't Mess With Me Monday: Alejandro Ingelmo Pistola Booties & 3 Vodka Cocktails

Bullet Points

Don't you just wanna shoot somebody sometimes just because it's Monday? No? Us either. Give peace a chance. You can still look (sorta) tough and bad-ass in a pair of killer heels with edgy accents, like these Pistola peep toed booties by Alejandro Ingelmo. The 4 3/4 inch heel and bullet detail on the slingback say "lookin' for trouble", yet the baby pink hue say there's still something sweet about you. I'm seeing these with cropped or ankle length pants. Anything longer defeats the purpose.

Tonight at happy hour, order a drink that sounds dangerous, but looks pretty. I suggest a Pink Pistol (I changed the name, but image & recipe courtesy of fitness.com). It combines 3 Vodka, lychee fruit, unsweetened pink grapefruit juice and a grapefruit wedge. Apparently, this slightly bittersweet drink is swimsuit-friendly, too. It only has about 130 calories and no fat! It does have about 16g of carbs, though, so if you're on a low carb kick, keep that in mind. Also remember that cutting back on carbs means you have less in your system to soak up alcohol. Overdoing it will almost surely lead to dangerous situations.

Fun Friday: Giuseppe Zanotti I87039 Madelene Booties & Lucid Absinthe's Ol' Lucy Blue Eyes

Stroke of Genius!

The creative energy is flowing abundantly today, and while you still haven't managed to sign up for that ceramics class (as New Year's Resolution #10 suggested), you can still let your artistic side show. An artsy pair of shoes- like these I87039 Madelene booties by Giuseppe Zanotti (available at Endless.com)- will let everyone know the Picasso within you is alive and kicking. The 4 inch high metallic midnight stiletto heel makes them sexy, and the half inch hidden platform keeps them comfy. Yet, it's the multi-colored satin, printed to resemble the strokes of an artist's brush, that shows true genius.

Continue the creative theme this evening at happy hour by imbibing a drink made with Absinthe, the spirit said to have inspired countless artists and bohemians of yesteryear. An Ol' Lucy Blue Eyes (recipe and image from Lucid Absinthe), will no doubt erase any blue feelings you've accumulated over the past week. It's quite a complicated recipe, but the basics are Stoli Blueberi, Lucid Absinthe, Simple Syrup. Also ask your bartender to add a little lemon juice, Massenez Framboise, gingerbeer and blueberries if possible. Absinthe's flavor is strong and a bit pungent, so be prepared for an unusual taste. The bluberry flavor of the vodka and the berries will help keep it from overpowering everything else, though. Oh, and don't worry, the absinthe that's available these days won't have you halucinating or anything. (For exact measurements and directions, visit Notesonaparty.com.)

Don't Mess with Me Monday: Strutt Couture Jolene Booties & Godiva Yuletinis

Stay Gold

You had a pretty slow weekend, but you're still in quite the mood today. Could it be that someone in your personal life annoyed you last night? Well, don't take it out on your underlings. Let Ponyboy be your inspiration, and prove Robert Frost's poem wrong. Remain unchanged by external factors, and embrace your resilient "youness" in a pair of gilded heels like these Jolene Booties by Strutt Couture (available at endless.com). The 4.25 inch heel allows you to rise above all pettiness, and the armadillo-like styling says you've got a tough exterior. However the green symbolizes the freshness of your spirit and the gold nods to your unchanging essence. Yeah, forget what happened yesterday, and work on embracing the new challenges the week will bring. Besides, it's the holiday season, so that let all the tinsel and glad tidings bring you joy.

If you can't do it on your own, ask your bartender for a little help from a Yuletini (Conceived by James Hall from Circo in the UK and courtesy of The Liverpool Daily Post). This bit of holiday cheer without hangover fear blends Godiva dark cacao liquer with Goldschlager. It tastes like a chocolate cookie with cinnamon on top, and the gold flakes add just the right amount of festivity. This is a great Monday drink, too, because it'll take some of the edge off yet leave you with your wits for Tuesday morning.

Don't Mess with Me Monday: Bruno Frisoni Booties and Prairie Tomato-basiltinis

Red-y
for the world

You say "toh-may-to", and they say "to-" eh, doesn't really matter. What you say goes anyway, right? You just wish the after-effects of this weekend's drink fest would obey and go away. You must press on and make it through the day, though, because when the boss is away, underlings slack all day. Besides, it's Monday, so you can get away with being a little groggy- as long as you have on shoes that distract people from that beleaguered look on your face. Walk tall in a pair of high and mighty heels like these Fem-bot-looking platforms from Bruno Frisoni. With a 4.7 inch heel and patent leather accented by elasticized gores, these booties say you don't play (and yet, you're somehow still a riot).

It's been said that a Bloody Mary is a pretty reliable hangover remedy, but that's more a brunch drink than something you'd order at happy hour. Opt instead for a Tomato-Basiltini (image courtesy Intoxicated Zodiac). From the folks at Intoxicated Zodiac (check Scorpio), it says you're the kind of gal who likes flavor but isn't all about the sweet stuff. Have your bartender muddle tomato water, a little sea salt and 3 fresh basil leaves. Then add Prairie Vodka (or other organic vodka with rustic notes) and shake over ice. Tomato water is hard to come by, but be flexible and tip well if your bartender is able to figure something out.
