Fun Friday- Earth Day Edition: Beyond Skin Wedges & Melissa Sandals

A Doube Toast to Mother Earth

Our planet’s having a crisis. There’s no denying it. Yes, the Earth undergoes certain geological changes every now and then. However, I believe we humans have abused our home planet to the point of erratic behavior… bi-polar disorder? Schizophrenia? MPD? Maybe just a bit of an identity issue? Either way, we’ve got to do better. We have to not only stop mistreating her, but also find ways to help in her healing. A good first step? Showing a bit of appreciation & celebrating the gifts she gives. We don’t have to skimp on style while we do it, though…

Melissa x Jean Paul Gaultier Sandal ShoesNBooze

Known for high style and sustainable practices, Melissa Shoes often put the fun in functionality. This pair from their collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier is no exception. The bright color, strappy design and high heel make them a great party shoe, and since they’re rubber, you don’t have to worry about rain OR spilled drinks.

Beyond Skin Saskia Wedge ShoesNBooze

Beyond Skin’s shoes are cruelty free, but they’re also plenty cute. These Saskia wedges are made from a faux suede material called ‘dinamica’, which is comprised of 100% recycled PET plastics. The festive zig zag on the wedge heel dresses them up and adds a fab touch.

Casa Noble Organic MargaritaWhen it’s time to toast this evening, it won’t be hard to keep the cocktails Earth-friendly. Casa Noble Tequila is made from 100% certified organic blue agave. Try a Casa Noble Organic Margarita. Recipe: 2 oz Casa Noble Crystal Tequila, 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice (or the juice of 1 whole lime), ¾ oz La Sierra Agave Nectar. Remember not to drink too many too quickly, though Casa Noble is eco-friendly, tequila without moderation isn’t anyone’s friend.

Veev Joi de Veev Cocktail ShoesNBoozeIf you’re not a fan of tequila, fret not. VeeV Acai Spirit is more like a vodka. Made using responsibly harvested acai fruit, it’s considered “a better way to drink” (VeeV’s words). In addition, $1 per bottle sold is donated to the Sustainable Acai Project. Try a Joie de VeeV tonight. Recipe: 1½ ounces VeeV Açaí Spirit, ½ in. ginger piece (diced), 1 ounce fresh lemon Juice, ¾ ounce simple syrup, ¾ ounce orange liqueur. This drink will be refreshing and slightly sweet, but remember it’s still alcohol. Enjoy responsibly.

Happy Earth Day: Carbon Neutral Blogging, Green Cocktails and Cute Shoes

Tree Spirited

It's been said that motherhood can be a thankless job. After all the damage we humans have inflicted, Mother Nature (AKA Mother Earth) would probably agree with that statement. Maybe all the recent earthquakes, tornadoes and other natural disasters are her way of scolding her unappreciative children. Then again, maybe they're just a part of her aging process. Nonetheless, today is Earth Day, and it's our job to celebrate her. Plant a tree, pick up litter, donate to an eco-charity. Oh, and wear your most awesome pair of green shoes. I adore Poetic License's Spring Bloom sandals (available at musthaveshoes.com and also at Shoegasm). Though they're not especially eco-conscious, the green leaf motif pays an adorable homage to Mother Nature's Splendor.

While your shoes may reflect your eco-attitude more in design than in material, you can make up for it by drinking a cocktail made from organic or Earth-friendly ingredients. Last year, I recommended one of VeeV Acai Spirit's Veev-tini cocktails (a tree is planted for every one ordered at certain restaurants). However, if you're not watching the NFL Draft at one of the locations on the VeeV list, you should ask your bartender for an Eco-Tea-Ni. A combination of Vodka 360 (an eco-friendly vodka), green tea liqueur and green tea, it'll give you a little kick and a nice boost.

I've decided to also do my part through this blog by making it carbon neutral. Actually a tree will be planted because of this post. Kaufda, a company from Denmark has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree in Northern California's Plumas National Forest for every blog that mentions their initiative. Apparently, a blog with 15,000 visits per month has a yearly carbon dioxide emission of 8 pounds. Having one tree planted will neutralize the carbon footprint of Shoes N Booze! Maybe one tree seems like a small contribution, but it's a start... What will be your gift to Mother Nature today?

Booze News: VeeV Treetinis are Earth Friendly

A Toast to the Tree Huggers

You know that slightly euphoric feeling you get when your drink first hits your bloodstream? It's all fuzzy and warm, and you almost instantly feel a little of the stress leave your shoulders. Well if you order a VeeV Treetini the next time you visit your local bar, you should feel a littler warm and fuzzier; for every Treetini ordered, Veev will plant a tree.

A partnership between Live It Green, LLC and VeeV Acai Spirit, the Treetini initiative makes it easy to do a little something for Mother Nature. First off, Treetinis are available at various bars and restaurants throughout the country (check here to see which is closest to you) and are made by combining VeeV Acai Spirit with seasonal, organic, locally grown ingredients (to the furthest extent possible). Second, like we said earlier, for every one purchased, a tree will be planted. The plantings take place quarterly in a region devastated by disaster. The initial location was Tamil Nandu, India, but the planting location is changed throughout the year to spread the greenery.

Unfortunatley, you'll only be able to get one of these eco-cocktails in Chicago, Dallas, New York City, Miami, San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles or Las Vegas. Cheers!
