Booze Review: Attems 2010 Pinot Grigio

 

Grape Expectations

 

I seldom discuss wine here, but that’s about to change… starting now. Ladies, the wine you drink says as much about you as your shoes and your cocktail. (The selection process can be confusing, so check back soon for more info on which wine says what.) There’s white, there’s red, sparkling, rose… and the list goes on. However, there are certain types you can find on almost any menu, and Pinot Grigio is one of them. It’s one of the more versatile varieties of white wine- easily sipped alone or paired with chicken, fish or other light meats. Recently, the folks at ATTEMS sent me a bottle of their 2010 Pinot Grigio to review.

ATTEMS wines come from Collio DOC in the northeastern part of Italy, and the winemaking lineage of the ATTEMS family dates back 900 years.

I asked my friends, Enovia Bedford of Accessory Remix (June Ambrose was just spotted in one of her necklaces) and Yenitza Lindsay of Sociallite Accessories to try it with me and give their opinions.

The Verdict (and potential food pairings)…

We rated it and decided which foods would work best with it

Tasting Notes (from Attems): The wine appears an intense straw yellow with gold highlights, luminous and appealing. Rich, complex notes of fruit are first to please, with banana, pear, mandarin, and
kumquat, as well as pink grapefruit and white peach, and the bouquet ends in a flourish with generous orange blossom honey. The elegance and length of the palate are notable, as is its silky mouth feel, finely balanced by a crisp acidity and ultra-savoury fruit.

I’m not as well-versed in my vino as I am in my cocktails, so this is a journey we can take together. One thing I’ve learned: white wine needs at least 3 years of aging to reach full maturity. Nonetheless, my friends and I definitely enjoyed the ATTEMS. Now I want to know what a 2008 tastes like.

Drawn to Perfection

Ruthie Davis’s designs range from daring to down right dicey. Her spike-, neon strap- and stud-adorned shoes have complimented the sartorial choices of style inspirers from Beyonce to Lady Gaga, and, well, I swoon every time I spy a pair. In the Shoeniverse…

The Shoe Girl stirred up a bit of controversy by observing (cough) similarities between a few Jeffrey Campbell designs and their high end predecessors. She also made me fall in love with Cece L’amour in the process.

 

Pumpsicle suggested celebrating the 4th of July all week long by wearing “Firecracker Footwear”. Did you wear red, white and blue for Independence Day? I did… all weekend.

 

 

Shoe Smitten picked her first pair of Louboutins. Apparently, my sole sister has a 25th birthday on the horizon… Go give her some bday love, OK?

 

 

 

Queen in Heels shared her inspirations for writing, blogging and personal style. In doing so, she suggested a couple of places you may find inspiration, too. Where do you most often find things that get your creative cogs going?

Fun Friday: Ruthie Davis Palm Springs Pumps

 

Neon Cameleon

If you’re on the East coast today, the gray skies may have you feeling a bit blue. But it’s Friday! (Friday… gotta get down on Friday. *Rebecca Black voice*) Be the bright spot in everyone’s day with a pair of neon patent leather pumps, like the Palm Springs by Ruthie Davis. The 5 inch stacked heel, platform and peep toe are staples in shoe styling at the moment and make them versatile… like your attitude. However the neon spin on the color blocking trend that’s so big this season really makes them stand out. If you don’t want to go too far out there with your look, wear them with something neutral, like khaki or olive dress.

It may be raining, but it’s still HOT out. Cool down at happy hour with a Pisco Porton Lime Raspadilla. With a flavor that’s somewhere between vodka and tequila in strength, the Peruvian white spirit is a great playmate for the tangy taste of lime.

Recipe: 2 ½ parts Pisco Portón, ½ part Rose's lime juice, ½ part fresh lime juice, Sugar for rim, Lime slice garnish

Method: Fill blender with ice and wet ingredients. Blend until frozen. Rub the rim of a tall glass with a lime slice so that the sugar will stick, then rim the glass with sugar and add blended ingredients. Garnish with a lime slice.

After a few of these, you won’t care about the weather or the week you’ve had. However, after too many, you also won’t care that your speech is slurred and your stumbling down the street. That said, be responsible.
